We’ve been working on a credit-crunch approach to realistic fundraising targets by splitting our plan into incremental steps. This will help us get out to Uganda sooner and start making a difference to babies’ lives.
2010
Malaika Care
Set up and open Malaka Care centre for up to 24 infants from 0-2 years old – completed.
Become an approved babies home – completed.
Work with the Probation Service and NGO’s to provide short-term transitional care for abandoned babies or infants at risk – in progress.
Build up a network of Ugandan volunteer experts to provide advice in monitoring & evaluation, legal, finance – in progress.
Work with the Government of Uganda to help capacity build other care homes and advocate for short-term stay instead of long-term residential care – in progress.
Secure on going corporate sponsorship with Ugandan companies to provide gifts in kind to keep running costs low – in progress.
Secure regular donors through ‘Sponsor a Cot’ to provide ongoing financial support – in progress.
Malaika Prevention
Design and implement volunteer training to provide support for at risk mothers – completed.
Set up Malaika Prevention service in partnership with the VSO- completed.
Set up a mother and baby crisis centre to give vocational training – completed.
Establish a drop-in centre to provide support, counselling and income generation skills to young mothers – in progress.
Find a designer to design crafts for the women to make and CiF to sell worldwide to sustain the women and the project – in progress.
Set up a community medical outreach programme with Mulago Hospital Comunity Health Department providing family planning and medical support – in progress.
Malaika Placement
Set up social work department and employ social workers – in progress.
Set up a fostering and adoption service to carry out detailed assessment of prospective families, guidance, support and training and managing early stages of placement, transition, routine follow up and monitoring – in progress.
Set up a network including Kampala Probation Service, childcare providers and adopters to design and implement a mass media campaign to promote adoption in Uganda – in progress.
Work together to implement and promote best practice across all the agencies involved in care and adoption.
Secure Uganda’s most popular broadcasters to create TV and radio content to advocate and sensitise Ugandan couples to adoption.
Fundraising
Launch our “Baby Shower” to pay for furniture and equipment for our Home – completed.
Set up a ‘Sponsor a Cot scheme and find 750 sponsors to cover the costs of our Care and Placement service – in progress.
Produce weekly video updates to keep Supporters updated on the project successes and failures- in progress.
2011
Oversee, and adapt as required our prevention programme.
Complete full situational analysis, buy and register a suitable plot of land in Kampala.
Finalise designs for Prevention Service to provide support to vulnerable women and their babies including vocational training, childcare facilities, income generating skills, family planning, health promotion and creating a self sustainable project.
Assemble modular building.
Replicate our prevention model in local communities in Uganda.
