We’ve been working on a credit crunch approach to realistic fundraising targets by splitting our plan into smaller incremental steps. This will help us get out to Uganda quicker and start making a difference to babies’ lives:

Phase One (1 Year)

  • Find suitable rented accommodation to set up a transitional babies’ centre in Kampala for 20 infants, from 0 – 2 years-olds maintaining the highest standard of hygiene, health and safety and 24-hour medical care.
  • Head Social Worker to set up a social work department and build up an effective
    relationship between existing baby care facilities, local community, government departments and
    existing NGO’s in order to promote and sensitise Ugandan families to fostering and adoption.
  • Set up a fostering and adoption service to carry out detailed assessment  of prospective families, guidance, support and training and managing early stages of placement, transition, routine follow up and monitoring.
  • Design and implement the of Mulago prevention programme in partnership with Home-Start Uganda to help support mothers.
  • Volunteer scheme to generate income and provide support for the Centre.
  • Conduct a land recce and situational analysis and buy and register a suitable plot of land for our project.
  • Finalise designs and bill of quantities.
  • Competitive tender out to local building contractors
  • Produce regular updates and video content on the Child’s i Foundation website to keep Supporters updated on the progress and purchase specific items for the Home.

Phase Two (1 year)

  • Secure the site
  • Build transitional babies centre, administration block, playground and staff accommodation.
  • Oversee Mulago Hospital prevention programme in partnership with Home-Start Uganda.
  • Social Work department to expand and develop placement programme.
  • Expand volunteer programme and invite work parties to assist with the build of the project.
  • Produce regular updates and video content on the Child’s i Foundation website to keep Supporters updated on the progress and purchase specific items for the Home.

Phase Three (1 year)

  • Open a short-term transitional babies’ home in Kampala for 50 infants, from 0 – 5 years-olds
  • Head Social Worker to expand social work department to cater for increase in children
  • Produce regular updates and video content on the Child’s i Foundation website to keep Supporters updated on the progress and baby shower to purchase specifics
  • Volunteer scheme to provide support for home, volunteers to cover expenses and live in rented accommodation off site
  • Introduce a skills exchange programme and partner up with Ugandan Broadcasting to teach Ugandan’s TV skills
